La Chaux-de-Fonds / Le Locle
Christian Desmeules, tourist train driver in La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle:
What is your role here at this World Heritage Site?
I am the driver of the tourist train in La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle. I am in charge of introducing visitors to the various important sites of the watchmaking metropolis. More precisely, I accompany them on a tireless journey of discovery of the watchmaking town planning and the buildings built by Le Corbusier. This activity is full of meetings with tourists from all walks of life who show an undeniable interest throughout the visit.
What's your favorite place? Do you have any special advice?
Without a second thought is the almost mysterious visit to the Maison Blanche, after the passage of the rue du Haut des Combes. Being able to get off the train to visit it is very much appreciated by visitors. The enthusiastic comments show the amazement of this ingenious architecture.
What are the best times to visit with the tourist train and why?
There is no better time (2pm - 3pm - 4pm) to make this trip by train. The interest is the same for each visit. It is the willingness of the passengers to decide when to visit the city.
What can you do? What activities do you recommend in particular?
Apart from all the visits proposed on various themes, which can be done on foot accompanied by a guide, it is essential to visit the watchmaking museums of Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds.
